J Curve

From Reuters Financial Glossary

(Redirected from J-curve)

Synonym: J-curve

An economic concept that says a variable may sometimes continue to change in the same direction in response to a stimulus, before it changes markedly in the opposite direction. For example, the balance of trade may continue to deteriorate following a devaluation because import costs rise. It then recovers to surplus as exports expand in volume due to cheaper exchange costs.
