On Balance Volume

A technical analysis indicator that is based on the trend in the volume, or the number of shares traded, in a particular share compared with the trend in its price. The assumption is that changes in volume precede changes in prices. For example, a rise in traded volume coupled with a gradually weakening price may signal a sharper price fall.
