TARP

The Troubled Asset Relief Program was a bailout programme created in 2008 under which the U.S. Treasury Department was given the authority to spend $350 billion, with the promise of another $350 billion under certain conditions, to purchase troubled or toxic assets, to stabilise the U.S. financial system and assist homeowners following the credit and subprime mortgage crises of 2007/08.
